Sol Haroon is the director of renewables and training at Pursuit Engineering. As an electrical engineer, he specializes in photovoltaic systems, renewable power systems, and teaching. He is a certified PV installation professional by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) and is also a long-standing member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). He has worked for many years in the solar field including 3 years at Suniva, Inc, an American solar PV manufacturing firm, where he led the system’s architecture team including the design and commissioning of multi-Megawatt systems. In addition to completing his Bachelors of Applied Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo, he has many years of experience in Electrical Engineering, Storage/Battery Systems, and PV Systems Design and Architecture in both design and teaching. Mr. Haroon is a consulting instructor at the Georgia Institute of Technology where in 2015 he created a 40-hour graduate course on PV systems architecture and taught 27 graduate students in the department of electrical and computer engineering. Mr. Haroon is published in trade journals and regularly gives public talks, radio interviews, and webinars on renewable energy and sustainable living.
Jeff Hires is a Professional Engineer registered in multiple states and with the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). He is a LEED Accredited Professional specializing in Building Design and Construction (LEED BD+C), Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD), and a Certified PV Installation Professional by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP). Mr. Hires is also a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Mr. Hires earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Florida. He brings over 13 years of experience in electrical power, lighting, and telecommunication designs of industrial, healthcare, institutional, and commercial buildings as well as sustainable electrical design including solar PV and energy storage systems. Jeff has completed the design and provided construction administration services on more than a dozen Solar PV projects and has provided preliminary design services (layouts, simulations, etc.) on numerous other projects. Jeff has experience with DC and AC coupled grid tie and off grid systems, rooftop and ground mounted systems, grounded and ungrounded systems, and all inverter topologies (Central, String, Micro, and DC optimizer system types). Jeff’s past experience of working full time (and now on contract basis) for an international battery company provides the additional benefits of battery knowledge and expertise in the integration of energy storage with renewable energy systems.
